05.03.2009 - RMK to organise family day in East-Viru County 05.03

This Saturday, 7 March RMK will organise a family day “The Forest and You” in East-Viru County, where all forest friends are expected. The event in Kauksi will last from 11.00 to 16.00.

Various activities will be offered for all ages for the whole day. Sportier people can try ski orienteering and Nordic skating or just go skiing or sledding. It will also be possible to try snow tubing and sledding, as well as take a trip on foot, with snowshoes or a push sleigh.

If the ice allows and there are fishing permits, fishing can be tried. The experienced fisher Vladislav Koržets will give tips and show correct fishing moves, talk about the fish living in Lake Peipus and fishing. You can take your own fishing gear, but they will also be provided on the spot for trying.

In workshops, it will be possible to try shingle braiding, saw discs from logs, and a special handicraft workshop will be open for children. At the nature centre, video training on forest wisdom can be taken and hunting trophies viewed; a local hunter will talk in greater detail about life in the forest and the hunting trophies.

“The aim of the family day of RMK is to promote the nature-awareness of people via active family holidays and introduce possibilities for hiking in nature and for sustainable forest recreation,” said Marge Rammo, Head of the Nature Preservation Department of RMK. Lunch is provided for all who have paid the participation fee.
